Lee’s Reef Project

Sunset Waters Beach Resort takes very seriously its commitment to both the pristine environment which surrounds it; and the education and welfare of the citizens of the Band Abao / Santa Marta Bay community.

We are among the largest private employers in Band Abao. It is our goal to provide our employees, their families and the community at-large with good jobs and a better understanding of the environment which sustains us all.

Most of Sunset Waters Beach Resort’s management and staff are long-time citizens of the Santa Marta Bay region. And as our guests will attest, it is the staff of Sunset Waters Beach Resort that sets this place apart from the rest.

Sunset Waters Beach Resort is the home to Fondashon Lee’s Reef Project, NA. An environmental education and preservation effort intended to preserve Santa Marta’s pristine coastal coral reef, shoreline and bay. Founded by Ricki Harris as a testament to her husband, Lee Harris (one of the Resort’s co-owners), Lee’s Reef Project offers local primary school children a field trip to the Resort’s SAVAGE TURTLE Classroom. There local children experience the wonder of this great place. Each year 650 local school children participate in Lee’s Reef Project’s EXPEDITION curriculum.

Sunset Divers, Lee’s Reef Project and the Netherlands Antilles Ministry of Fisheries recently placed 2 buoys near the Santa Marta shore area coral reefs to give local fishermen safer, environmentally friendly fishing alternatives.
